Sumerian myth, the Bible, and Aliens?

The farther I've gotten into "The 12th Planet" by Zecharia Sitchin, the more I find myself interested in the connections between Sumerian myth and the events of the Old Testament of the Bible. Partly because I've always been fascinated by religion and also because I've wanted to know origins of Judaic beliefs, which as most everyone knows is the source for three of today's major relgions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam).

Yesterday while browsing The Debris Field (which is one of the best places to find the latest and greatest esoteric news by the way) I came across a link to an interesting post over at The Book of Thoth, which is one of the many esoteric/paranormal hubs on the web.

In the post, the author, who goes by the name Anuatlantian, has put together the many connections between Sumerian myth and the Old Testament, side by side (more like above and below, well you'll see what I mean.) and really brought out the similarities. Interestingly, if this guy is right, events in both Sumerian myth and the Old Testament and almost exactly the same, other then some name differences (which seem to translate over).

Of course if these connections are correct, it brings up the question of who the Anunnaki (the deities) of Sumerian myth are, because they are the ones who equal out to being God and the angels of the Bible. Well, the connections are between the Anunnaki, God, and angels aren't really the question as much as, what were they. Were/are they merely a product of myth, or are they possibly extra-terrestrial in origin as Zecharia Sitchin proposes the Anunnaki are in "The 12th Planet" and the rest of his books.

If the E.T. connection is real, then we were all placed here by aliens, but seeing as Zecharia's interpretation of Sumerian language, and translations of other languages have been questioned (although I think he may be at least partly right), I'm really not sure what to think. Doesn't help that I know squat about foreign languages, and that I'm no mythology scholar, but by the time I'm done reading into this stuff, I might be...well depending on how much I read into it.

Anywho, I intend on picking up the books listed as sources by Anuatlantian, excluding the Bible (I already own a couple variants of said tome) and exploring the subject for myself, which I think will prove to be in the word of the great Spock "Fascinating".

Lotta weird stuff floatin' around in there where the Sumerians had it, stuff to shatter the foundations of the present day, yea and verily!

When Enki and Enlil are described in the language of the time regarding their regard of ourselves: One hated us while the other thought we were pretty cool, actually, and even put himself at risk warn us about "a coming flood." Enki: a healing God of the Earth, master of science and medicine whose symbol was a serpent... the creator of HomoSap, as it's reported, and punished by Enlil —by extention the god worshipped today— for his love of man. Gets a little tricky when you thought Enki, Prometheus, or Satan was of needs an in every way... _always_... the bad guy... you know? Though, not at the provenances of these Gods and Devils, eh? Who _was_ who?!

Too, how did the Sumerians know about Neptune and Uranus down to the close size and blue or green colors... or have any knowledge of the asteroid belt? Where is that 13th planet?

Some _real_ curious stuff.

Indeed it is curious and I find myself wanting to dig deeper into it all in order to find more answers.

And thee is no doubt it would shatter today's foundations as you said. That's probably why it's always passed off as nothing, but gibberish, because those in power know the effect it would have.

I think what's even more important is whether or not the Anunnaki are indeed real and if they are either Gods or Aliens. For if they are aliens and their planet arrives in 2012 as some predict, will they once again fool us into believing they are Gods (or Jesus and Angels)? Possibly even enslave us?

I find it all perplexing, intriguing, and bit scary at the same time.

You might want to look into the Book of Enoch. It is a contraversial book in that people dispute whether or not it was indeed written by Noah's grandfather Enoch. But it was found to be in the Ethiopian cannon of scripture. In it, you find how angels called Watchers were set over the human race and eventually mixed their own DNA with humans. The result was a race known as the Nephilim. I was amazed that the author of the book you were refering to said that term, Nefilim, showed up inm Sumerian texts. The book of Enoch goes on to say that the Watchers also taught the human race about astronomy, forging of metals, and many other things. Anyway, I would recommend it as a research book. It was also mentioned in the New Testament and was a widely read scroll in the times of Jesus.

The earliest flood legend comes from the fragmentary Sumerian Eridu Genesis, which has been dated by its script to the 17th century BCE. The god Enki wants to destroy mankind in a flood and instructs Ziusudra (also known as Atrhasis) to build a large boat, after which he is left to repopulate the Earth. Clearly the Noah story of Biblical mythology is reworking of this tale. As for Zecharia Sitchin's The 12th Planet it seems odd that an alien civilisation of beings which posses the technology to travel to the Earth lack the sort of mechanised extractive technologies that we take for granted nowadays.
