Ancient Astronauts and the Tao

Readers of my blog probably know by now that I have a fascination with ancient astronaut theory, the idea that aliens had some sort of influence in humanity's past. Theories range anywhere from aliens creating us to them merely intervening and influencing our civilization through the ages. Evidence supporting these theories is said to exist in many places, from ancient ruins, artifacts, bizarre hieroglyphics and images, and religious texts (i.e. the Bible and the Vedas ). It was while reading one of these texts, the Complete Works of Chuang Tzu (info on the person) a Taoist master, that I found something that may have been overlooked by ancient astronaut theorists.

In the first section of his works called "Free and easy wandering" there is a section where the character Chen Wu tells another character:

Ordinarily a person probably would have written this off as highly imaginative fiction, however I find it quite interesting. First off is the description of the Holy Man, "...with skin like ice or snow, and gentle and shy..." which bears in my opinion a similarity to the classic gray aliens, minus the large black eyes aspect. Then we come to the fact that, he doesn't eat normal food, and rides a dragon which could be an aircraft of some kind, described in terms familiar to the ancient Chinese. Finally we have the possibility of highly advanced or evolved mental powers in the "...concentrating his spirit..." portion. Overall it screams ancient alien to me.

There is also the possibility that it could even be connected to the Dropa stones story, where a supposed race of alien beings landed near the Chinese-Tibetan border and were unable to leave due to some sort of misfortune. After realizing their predicament, they settled in a system of caves and tried to fit in the natives of the region only to have been all, but wiped out by them. In the end they left behind hundreds of stone discs that show signs of advanced engineering.

All this is of course conjecture, but I feel the account in Chuang Tzu's writings make for compelling evidence of possible alien contact in ancient China and perhaps lends more credence to the Dropa story. Maybe the "Holy Man" is even a Dropa?

I was just reading that myself and came to the same conclusion that you did. I was dumbstruck. This came as a complete surprise to me. And validation of my belief in the Ancient Astronaut theories.
I have been studying Tao to Ching, more or less all things Tao, that I can get my hands on for a very long time. I consider myself a Taoist. In all these years I have not come across this particular information until now.
To me it is just another piece of information that, collectively, will eventually acknowledge that we are not now, nor have we ever been, alone.

The "evidence" that many proponents of the notion speak of have been refuted and honestly, understanding engineering, mathematics and physics without a computer can you build things like the pyramids and Stonehenge. As for "crop circles" and things, they are the products of the human imagination and our brains being tricked by some phenomenon of nature. "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" -Carl Sagan And, one can not take ancient texts as evidence because of the ignorance and the myths that pervaded each culture because of such ignorance which concrete science has revealed (and such unweavings and reweaving reveal even remarkable aspects of the cosmos.) I think we ought to give our species more credit than that and ignore the conspiracy theorists and the techno myths until there is concrete solid evidence. Just some advice, man!

Plus, they could be metaphors or, again, myths like the Judeo-Christian myth. And, about Gilgamesh and Noah, the resemblances are either coincidental or a result of cultural exchange from trade or conquest. ;)

As for the "creepy" quality, it's due to age of rumour and myth which has been distorted over time. For example, there is a myth about Richard Feynman's wife's death. The myth is she died and the clock remained frozed when she died exactly. However, the clock (traditional analogue alarm clock on the nightstand) tends to stop when tipped, and when the nurses turned over the clock to record the time of death the clock stopped and likely had to be rewound again. I'm not discounting the idea of being alone. Rather, I'm suggesting a better explanation and that perhaps we have yet to communicate with TRUE E.T.s .

In other words the kind of evidence I'm looking for is something like advanced technology or an ancient proof of Fermat's last theorem which was proven in the mid 1990s AD.
